Welcome to Sheffield IAPT

Welcome to Sheffield Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service part of Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust. We are an NHS adult service offering a range of free psychological therapies to over 13,000 people each year who work and/or live in Sheffield.

1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year. We can offer a range of local therapies that can help with stress, anxiety and depression.

Please take some time to look through our videos and the information on our website that we hope will help guide you to the right therapy for you. You will find information on self-help and a range of activities and support available in your local area, as well as a range of therapies that we can offer including help on-line.

Having a long-term health condition can be frustrating or worrying at times. It is very common for health conditions to affect how you feel and for your mood to affect your health condition. This can lead to feeling stressed, low, anxious or worried.

Challenges of Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Covid-19 is a global pandemic that has an impact on all of us, it is ok not to be ok. You may feel tearful, scared, irritated, frustrated, worried about yourself or your family and friends. You may be checking the news a lot, having problems sleeping or feel isolated and alone.

You are not alone.

We are here to help and lots of people may be feeling and thinking similar things as we share this global experience. However, this a very challenging and uncertain time and we are here to help you find a way through this and look after yourself. Have a look at the help we can provide HERE.

First Steps in Mindfulness Introduction

First Steps in Mindfulness for Wellbeing is a free 4 week course which gives a practical introduction to mindfulness, so that you can explore the benefits this can bring to your health and wellbeing. This online course teaches simple mindfulness meditation practices which you can build into daily life, to help reduce problems such as stress, anxiety, low mood and pain.

The course is taught in by NHS Professionals who are trained and experienced mindfulness teachers. Found out more HERE.

Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner Introduction (PWP)

Stress Control, Improving Wellbeing Sessions and our online therapy programme, SilverCloud have all been carefully designed to give you the right information and support you in learning the skills and techniques we know are proven to help overcome stress, anxiety and depression.

People sometimes report doing all the right things but continue to feel stressed, depressed or anxious. If you are unsure which therapy is right for you, see your GP who may recommend that you book in to see a member of our team.

Living Well with Pain Course Review 

The Living Well with Pain Course is a course with 5 sessions over 5 weeks for people who experience chronic pain (pain which is experienced for 6 months or more) and who want to find ways to help themselves manage and cope with living with pain.

Stress Control – Dave’s Story

Stress control is a course which provides you with proven ways to reduce stress, anxiety and depression as well as boost your self-esteem.

The course will provide you with information based on proven ways to manage stress, anxiety and depression. You will be taught how to use the information to help yourself and practice techniques such as relaxation between sessions. It will help you to build your confidence through learning about and practicing positive ways to manage stress. This is a lecture style course delivered by our team through presentations and is not group therapy. You will not be asked to share your experiences or to speak in front of others, just sit back and listen.

Wellbeing Sessions

Improving Wellbeing Sessions are an opportunity for you to learn some helpful techniques to improve how you feel. These sessions are delivered by two NHS Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners who will help you learn techniques to overcome low mood, anxiety and worry. You download a free workbook to use throughout the sessions. You will not be asked to share your personal experiences with others. IAPT is a service for adults and so if you are under 18 we recommend speaking to your GP about alternative options of help in your GP Practice.
